100% Natural Bamboo
1. Breaks up clumps: Matcha powder doesn't melt in water. The whisk mixes the powder evenly so your tea isn't gritty.
2. Pulls in air: The whisk has dozens of tiny bamboo prongs that act like little whips to drag air down into the liquid.
3. Smashes bubbles: Whisking back and forth in a quick "W" shape forces big air bubbles to crash into each other and break into tiny ones.
4. Creates foam: The tea's natural ingredients trap those tiny bubbles, leaving a smooth, velvety layer of foam on top.
Before Its First Use ("Blooming")
Brand new whisks have a tightly curled core and stiff tines. You need to "bloom" it by soaking the tines in a bowl of warm water for 2-3 minutes. The outer tines will relax, and the inner knot will blossom outward. This structural change is completely normal and meant to happen!
Before Every Use
Never whisk with dry bamboo—brittle tines snap under pressure. Simply soak the tines in warm water for 15-30 seconds right before making your matcha. This softens the bamboo, making it pliable and ready to whip up foam.
How to Clean After Use
Because bamboo is porous, cleaning your whisk promptly and correctly is crucial. Never use soap, sponges, or put it in the dishwasher.
1.Rinse immediately:Don't let matcha dry on the bamboo.
Rinse the whisk under a gentle stream of warm water right after making your tea.
2.Whisk in plain water:
Fill your matcha bowl with clean, warm water and briskly whisk it just as if you were making tea. This dislodges any trapped powder from the dense inner core.
3.Inspect the tines:
Gently run your fingers over the bottom of the tines to ensure no hidden green specks remain.
Drying and Storage
The absolute best way to dry and store a chasen is on a kusenaoshi (a ceramic whisk holder, like the green one pictured above). Placing the damp whisk over the mold helps it maintain its traditional tulip shape as the bamboo dries and tightens.
Matcha is the simplest thing on your counter—one small, grounding moment before the day starts. Yet, modern preparation often introduces noise into the kitchen with stubborn clumps and ineffective metal frothers. The ritual is right, but the tool has been the problem.
Our traditional bamboo whisk (chasen) is here to fix that. Featuring dozens of meticulously hand-carved tines, it aerates seamlessly and transforms your tea into a perfect, velvety foam. We offer quiet, considered tools for the mindful tea drinker who chooses fewer, better things. Effortless and simple, it earns its place on your counter. Made for the moments that belong to you.
